Who is Carole Fredericks?

June 5, 1952 to June 7, 2001
A phenomenal voice... a legendary musical presence... overflowing generosity... strength and simplicity. For 22 years Paris, France was her home. Although French was not her native tongue, Carole mastered the language and became a renowned recording artist in the French-speaking world. Know as "Black Mama" to millions of music fans around the world, Carole's vocal style gave birth to the soulful rhythm and blues sounds prevalent in contemporary French rock music.
On June 7, 2001 while on tour in Senegal, West Africa, Carole Fredericks succumbed to a heart attack. She was 49 years old. Her death left an unmistakable void in the music world and in the hearts of fans and friends. At the request of the French Ministry of Culture, Carole was laid to rest with other luminaries in historic Cimetière de Montmartre in Paris.
